Streaming or downloading movies and TV shows from unofficial sources is illegal - but there are lots free and legal sources of this content. If you want to get access to the latest content however, you may want to consider a premium service and many to offer student discounts.
TV content for academic use
If you need access to broadcasted content for academic purposes then check out Box of Broadcasts (BoB). BoB is a service from the British Film and Video Council that enables you to record and view TV and radio online from over 60 free-to-air channels in the UK, including an archive of over 1,000,000 programmes. BoB is available to staff, students and researchers at member universities and colleges across the UK. https://learningonscreen.ac.uk/ondemand. Just type University of Hull in the 'Where are you from' box and it should log you in.

Free websites and apps
Most TV channels offer a free on-demand service. These let you stream and/or download TV shows and movies to your laptop, mobile, game console or connected TV. Some of these services also let you stream live television.
