Peer-Assisted Student Success: About PASS: Students

Students:
Why attend PASS?

Some students prefer to sit by themselves, others have a preference to be in a group setting with people from their own course. If you fall into the latter category of students, then PASS is for you! Come along to a PASS session to ask any and all questions regarding your current module, or simply life at university.

A PASS session is a safe environment, either on campus or on Microsoft Teams, where you can meet your fellow students in a timetabled slot, to discuss whatever you feel like covering that week.

PASS also provides the opportunity to ask those supposed “silly” questions that you may not want to bother a lecturer with. There are no silly questions at a PASS session!

Our data indicates that students who attend PASS session achieve a higher grade on average compared to those who do not attend a session.

PASS sessions are delivered by PASS Leaders who are friendly and welcoming volunteers. Leaders are students who use their experience of studying to help others to gain a better understanding of module or programme content. Although the Leaders will help to facilitate the session, what is covered in a session is completely up to the students attending.

Here is what our students say about PASS:

"PASS has made be feel welcome in the University in the first 3 weeks" "The PASS leaders were a good influence to do well on the course"

"The PASS leaders were helpful and approachable"; "PASS helps you gain a better understanding of the subject"

"PASS is very helpful and removes a lot of anxiety about exams"; "I found it a useful session to ask questions, obtain and offer each other support"
