London Study Centre Library Guide: Using other university libraries

A guide for University of Hull students based at the London Study Centre.

Using other university libraries in the UK and Ireland

SCONUL Access is a scheme that allows many university library members to use study spaces or books and journals at other libraries that are part of the scheme. Some library users may be able to borrow print books from other libraries too.

Please note - you need to be able to visit the library in person so the scheme is only available to students based in the UK and Ireland.

 

You must complete the application form before you visit any other libraries. You will be contacted once the form has been processed and then you can plan your visits.

Before you complete the application, you need to answer two questions using drop-down menus:

  • Tell us what kind of user you are: Answer – full-time postgraduate.
  • Tell us the name of your institution: Answer – University of Hull (under ‘H’ not ‘U’).

You will be shown a list of the institutions you can visit. You can change this to a map, and add in a post code or select a geographical location to make it easy to find the libraries nearest to you. Please note that you will need to zoom in to see London in detail!

As of July 2024, the available libraries nearest to the London Study Centre are: Birbeck, SOAS, and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. This may change, so always check the SCONUL list before visiting.

Access to other libraries' eResources is not included in SCONUL access because of licensing restrictions.

eduroam

When you are in another university's library, you can use eduroam to connect to Hull's Library and online resources. eduroam is the wireless network used across UK higher education institutions and is available to all registered students and staff.

For information about eduroam, visit the IT Services section of the Student Portal, and look for WiFi, Network & Web services.
