"I cannot imagine how anyone could write their thesis without using EndNote - I would go quite mad if I had to do all my referencing manually!"
EndNote is an extremely sophisticated bibliographic management package. It is available as a desktop program on all open-access university machines and as an online program to use from anywhere. The two versions can sync with each other to keep your own library of references up-to-date.
Accessing EndNote
EndNote X9 (desktop)
On campus
EndNote X9 is available on all open-access computers on campus. It can also currently be downloaded to all university-owned machines by accessing the Software Centre from the Windows menu.
Downloading EndNote on your own computer
The University's EndNote X9 agreement now allows University of Hull students and staff to install EndNote on their own Windows or macOS. Just visit the Support Portal and search ‘EndNote’.
EndNote online
Most undergraduate students use the free online version when working at home. To access EndNote Online follow this link myendnoteweb.com and create an account using your university email. You can configure a desktop library to sync with the web version (see below) and so use the full X9 version when on campus. Once you have gained access to EndNote Online, you should download the free Cite While You Write installer (available from the Downloads tab) so that you can cite within MS Word on your home computer.
Mobile app
There is a free EndNote app available for the iPad which means you can read and make notes on papers in your EndNote library whilst you are on the go, or in the comfort of your armchair. Just search for EndNote in the app store.
Find Full Text off-campus via EZproxy
If you are working off-campus, you can use EZproxy to improve the success of the Find Full Text feature in EndNote. To add these settings to EndNote, choose Edit (EndNote on macOS), Preferences and select Find Full Text. Then enter the following details:
