"NVivo is like having a huge pack of digital highlighter pens than can actually recognise and remember the text they draw over"
NVivo is qualitative data analysis (QDA) software. It helps you to manage, code and analyse data such as interviews, focus group transcripts, open questions on surveys and other text-based sources including literature. You can also use it to help with analysing images though the functionality for this is limited. It should help you to approach your analysis in a structured and organised manner.
Accessing NVivo
NVivo is available on all the University's open-access PCs. As a University of Hull student, you can also download the current version, for free, onto your own machine. The instructions for this change periodically, but you can always find them on the 'NVivo for Home Use' page on Hubble of the Staff Portal:

It is important that you follow the instructions carefully. Always make sure you are downloading the version that tallies with the first part of the license key you are sent (for example if it begins NVT14 you need to download NVivo 14, if it starts NVT15, download NVivo 15. If a new version has recently been released, you may need to click on a link for 'Older versions' to find the right one.
NVivo Videos
Please find here a range of videos that will help you with using NVivo. You may only need to use some of the features in these videos, if you are unsure, please contact the Skills Team and explain your project - we will advise which videos would be most relevant.

A note about NVivo and OneDrive
There are some known issues with using NVivo on OneDrive and the ideal situation would be to locate your library on the hard drive of your own laptop or PC. If you are unable to do this, then please consult this help from IT Services to ensure you do not lose any of your data: NVivo and OneDrive.
