Reading List Support Material: Adding Books

The bookmarklet tool

To add items to your reading list you will need to have bookmarklet tool installed. See the Getting Started page for instructions on how to do this and how to get permissions for editing your lists.

Adding a print book to your list

Always start by checking the Library Search

If only available as a print book:

  1. Click on the title of the book
  2. Click  Add to Readinglists@hull icon from your favourites toolbar or the browser plugin
  3. Click on the link that now appears on the availability page: Bookmark to reading list
  4. Click on  Create and add to list icon
  5. Select the appropriate list, section and assign a level of importance.
  6. Click OK

Remember to assign a level of importance: Essential, Recommended, or Background. See the Reading List Policy for further details.

Adding an eBook to your list

Always start by checking the Library search: https://www.hull.ac.uk/library

If only available as an eBook:

  1. Click on the title of the eBook
  2. Click  Add to readinglists@hull icon from your favourites toolbar or the browser plugin
  3. Click on  Create and add to list icon
  4. Select the appropriate list / section / and assign a level of importance.
  5. Click OK

Remember to assign a level of importance: Essential, Recommended, or Background. See the Reading List Policy for further details.

Adding a Book and eBook to your list where both formats are held

Always start by checking the Library search

If available as both a paper book and an eBook:

  1. Right click on the title of the eBook and copy the link (or open the eBook and copy the web address)
  2. Click on the availability of the print book from the Library search
  3. Click  Add to readinglists@hull icon  
  4. Click on the link that now appears on the availability page: Bookmark to reading list
  5. Add a ‘Web address’ field   and paste in the link copied from the eBook
  6. Tick the ‘Online Resource’ box, click ‘Link To’ and choose the web address
  7. Click on  Create and add to list icon
  8. Select the appropriate list / section / and assign level of importance.
  9. Click OK

Remember to assign a level of importance: Essential, Recommended, or Background. See the Reading List Policy for further details.

Publishing and Reviewing

When you have finished any changes to your list please remember to click on 

If you have any book order or digitisation requests please also click on  request review icon

Useful tip!

If you don't see the bookmark you've created when you go into your reading list, click on the refresh button from your browser
