Dawsonera eBooks

Any individual eBooks we buy are housed on 'platform' websites. Dawsonera is one such platform. This page explains how to use eBooks on Dawsonera.

Most DawsonERA eBooks can be used by more than one person at a time.


DawsonERA supports the major browsers. The following are particularly recommended:

Chrome - 38.0.2125.122

IE 7, 8, 9, 10, 11

Safari 7.x, 8

Logging in

You will need your Shibboleth username and password to log in to Dawsonera (your Shibboleth username is your usual user ID).


Opening a Dawsonera ebook


You can download Dawsonera eBooks for one day. Digital Rights Management (DRM) restrictions apply. These may prevent you from using the eBook on an e-reader or tablet.

Note: once you've download an eBook, you will need to open it while still connected to a network in order to complete the DRM certification. Afterwards you should be able to open it with or without a network connection.




Read online

Reading online is the best option with Dawsonera ebooks, although you may still have problems with e-readers and tablets.

Note: Adobe needs to be installed as your default PDF viewer.

Printing and Copying

The amount you can print or copy is set by the publisher, and will vary from title to title. It is usually either 5% or 10% of the total number of pages in the eBook.

Each time you print of copy a page you'll be told how many more pages remain in your allowance.

Print: Click to either print the page you're reading, or select a range of pages.

Copy: Click to select a page, or part of a page, to copy. To select an area of a page to print, click then use your mouse to click and drag the crosshair selector over the text you want to copy. You can then add it to your Word document, etc., Remember to cite the extract or quote.
